Slack
Connect Slack to Reflekt Legal so your AI intake specialists can keep your team informed inside the workspace it already uses. Once connected, the assistant can post team notifications — a new intake, a lead status change, anything your workflow marks as worth telling the team — into a Slack channel you choose.
The integration uses a one-click OAuth flow. You log in to Reflekt Legal, start the connection, and approve the installation in Slack — no API keys or manual configuration required.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Slack workspace.
- Permission in that workspace to install apps. Many workspaces restrict app installation to owners and admins; if that is the case for yours, ask one of them to complete the connection or to approve the request Slack sends them.
- A Reflekt Legal account.
Connect Slack
- Log in to your Reflekt Legal account.
- Navigate to Integrations.
- Find Slack and click Connect.
- You will be redirected to Slack and asked to choose the workspace and allow the installation. Review the requested permissions (listed below) and click Allow.
Once you approve, you will be redirected back to Reflekt Legal and the integration will be connected.
Choose the channel
Notifications go to one channel of your workspace. To set it:
- Navigate to Integrations and open the Slack settings.
- In Default Channel, enter the channel name — for example
#intake. - Save.
Use the name of a channel that already exists, or a name you are happy to have created: the first time Reflekt Legal posts to a channel it cannot find, it creates a public channel with that name. A workflow can also name a different channel for a specific notification; that channel is treated the same way.
Private channels need an invitation. Reflekt Legal can post into any public channel of the workspace on its own. A private channel is different: Slack never lets an app see or post into one until a member invites it. Open the channel in Slack and type /invite @Reflekt Legal (the app appears under the name it was installed with).
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why the assistant needs it |
|---|---|
Send messages (chat:write) | Post the notifications themselves. |
Send messages to channels the app is not a member of (chat:write.public) | Post into the public channel you named without having to be added to it first. |
View basic information about public channels (channels:read) | Find the channel you named. |
View basic information about private channels the app has been added to (groups:read) | Find a private channel you named, once the app has been invited to it. |
Join public channels (channels:join) | Become a member of the channel it posts in, so the team can see it there. |
Manage public channels (channels:manage) | Create the channel when it does not exist yet. |
Invite members to public channels (channels:write.invites) | Requested with the installation so the app can add teammates to the channel it posts in; no current feature uses it. |
The app cannot read your messages, and it cannot see private channels it has not been invited to.
Slack grants permissions at installation time and never adds new ones on its own. If your firm connected Slack before chat:write.public, groups:read and channels:join were part of the request, the app is still running on the smaller set and cannot post into a public channel it has not been added to. Reconnecting — Integrations → Slack → Connect, then Allow — grants the missing permissions on top of the existing ones; nothing else changes.
Reconnecting
Slack is authorized through OAuth, so there is no key to keep valid — but the authorization can be removed, and the channel it posts to can change under it. When either happens, notifications stop arriving and nothing in Slack itself flags the problem. Reflekt Legal watches for this: once its posts have been failing for a while, the people on your notification list receive an email and a banner appears at the top of your Reflekt Legal pages.
What causes it:
- Someone removed the Reflekt Legal app from the workspace, or Slack revoked its access. A workspace owner can check this under Settings & administration → Manage apps.
- The default channel was archived, renamed, or deleted, so the name Reflekt Legal was given no longer points at a channel it can post to.
- The channel is private and the app was never invited to it (or was removed from it).
- Slack was connected before the app asked for the permission to post into channels it is not a member of, and the channel you named is one it has not been added to (see the note above).
- A workspace setting restricts who may post in that channel, and the app is not allowed.
How to fix it:
- Log in to your Reflekt Legal account and navigate to Integrations.
- If the app was removed or its access revoked, find Slack and click Connect again. Approving the installation a second time is safe and restores the connection.
- Open the Slack settings and check Default Channel: make sure it names a channel that exists and is not archived. Correct it if the channel was renamed.
- If the connection predates the current permission set, click Connect on the Slack integration once more and approve — that alone lets the app post into public channels it is not a member of.
- For a private channel, invite the app from inside the channel with
/invite @Reflekt Legal, and make sure channel posting is not restricted to specific people.
Notifications resume with the next event your workflow reports; there is nothing to re-send.
